Prepare for Your First Visit

Your first visit will be a consultation with Dr. Alvarado, during which he will explain your diagnosis and treatment options. This is an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the procedure, options for sedation, and recovery.

Before Your Consultation

For your first appointment, please bring the following with you:

  • Your surgical referral slip.
  • X-rays or CT images if your dentist or doctor has given them to you. Digital images can also be emailed to xrays@nvoms.com.
  • A list of all medications you are taking, including the dosages.
  • Medical or dental insurance cards if you have insurance. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 are required by law to be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit.

Surgery

Preparing for Surgery

Before surgery with IV anesthesia, a consultation and exam are mandatory. During the exam, be sure to tell your doctor about any medical conditions you may have, including diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves, and joints, rheumatic fever, etc., and any medications you are taking (especially heart medications, aspirin, blood thinners, etc.).

X-Rays and CT Scans

The office has digital X-ray and CT machines for any additional imaging we may need. We use CT (computed tomography) scans for highly accurate 3D images of the jaws, teeth, and facial bones for many dental procedures, including for oral and orthognathic surgery, orthodontics, implants, TMJ analysis, and airway assessment.

Day of Surgery

On the day of surgery, do not eat or drink ANYTHING six hours before your scheduled surgery time. Please arrange for an adult to take you home as you will not be allowed to drive yourself.
